Mayor Nobby Davis’s slate of annual appointments was accepted by the council. The nominations included Fred Works as city attorney, Lora Hunt as city treasurer and Patti Miklos as municipal judge; Otis Crawford was appointed president of the council following a separate motion. The appointments were approved by voice vote with no dissent.
Representatives from CASA, Hope Unlimited and the Kansas Children's Service League presented a proclamation declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Assault Awareness Month; the council approved Mayor Davis signing the proclamation. City staff also approved two local event requests: members of the junior class were granted permission to hold a Grand March on the square April 18, 2026, and Sarah Hart of Bridge Street Books was allowed to have a food truck (Black Sheep Donuts) in front of her shop for Independent Book Store Day on April 25.
Rosan Williams of PSI Insurance presented a dividend check to the city for $21,754.31. Councilmember Johnson asked the council to accept his thanks for a plant that was provided at his wife's funeral; that acknowledgement was recorded in the minutes.
The council's next regular meeting is scheduled for May 11, 2026, when several items discussed at this meeting will return for further consideration.
