Hoyt council hears updates on water meters, KDHE loan notice, Eagle Scout project and park repairs

Council members used the Aug. 6 meeting to share a range of routine community updates and schedule follow-up on several items.
Becky McClane reported roughly 30 new water meters have been installed and staff continue configuring billing for the new system. The clerk said the Kansas Department of Health and Environment sent notice about a loan program tied to replacing lead service lines following a copper-lead inventory; the city must respond by Oct. 15, 2024 and the item will be revisited next month when the city attorney is present.
Debbie Dreasher reported that the dock at the city pond had been taken out after discovering cracked barrels; the council retroactively approved $945 to replace floats. Dreasher also said she will follow up on the water-fountain installation and coordinate with the high school about student help for park landscaping.
Debbie Dreasher and Mayor Bell also said Mayor Bell signed paperwork enabling Kadyn Pugh's Eagle Scout project at the community building to proceed at the end of the month. Joe Romans said he will seek cost estimates next year for an optional military memorial at the park, describing a kneeling soldier statue surrounded by flags.
The clerk confirmed Kenny Bryan passed his sewer-operator test and the council agreed to allow Farrell Holthaus to assist Bryan with meter installations. Councilors approved payment of bills and adjourned at 8:36 p.m.
