Hoyt council discusses post office parking, intersection visibility and dog park memorial for Crystal Kiely

At its Feb. 4 meeting the Hoyt City Council discussed community concerns ranging from parking near the post office to visibility at the intersection of 4th and Highland and agreed to memorialize Crystal Kiely at the dog park.

Joe Romans raised complaints circulating on social media about parking in front of the post office and said he would speak with nearby business owners to clarify lease arrangements that affect available spaces. Councilmember Debbie Dreasher provided zoning details for businesses in the area and said she wants to meet owners to explore parking solutions that will accommodate Haymakers customers. Dreasher also flagged a safety issue at 4th and Highland where parked vehicles can reduce sight lines for drivers pulling into the street.

Separately, Romans told the council he had a memorial plaque made for Crystal Kiely to give to her family and proposed naming the dog park in her memory. He said the scouts who helped build the dog park supported the idea; council members agreed to the plaque and asked Romans to gather more information on a memorial bench for discussion at the next meeting.

Next steps: Romans will consult on bench options and the clerk will follow up on parking and visibility outreach with local business owners and public works staff.
