CDD discusses 10–12 foot storm surge risk, agrees to coordinate on long‑term resilience planning

The River Ridge CDD discussed storm surge protection and multi‑agency coordination during the Oct. 22 meeting after Pelican Sound representatives described resilience planning underway.
Eric Long, PSGRC General Manager, said Pelican Sound is developing an action plan and an advisory/review panel and asked the CDD to designate a Board representative and staff or engineering contact to help coordinate with external agencies. Long noted the Army Corps of Engineers had presented options in Collier County should funding become available.
Long said a hypothetical analysis of Hurricane Milton showed that "a 10’ to 12’ storm surge could have caused 45% to 55% of the community to be flooded." He recommended being proactive and indicated that addressing the issue could take a decade and require coordination at state, county and village levels.
The Board agreed to support the effort; Mr. Long and newly appointed Supervisor Keith Merrill will assist with coordination, and Mr. Krebs was authorized to provide technical support as needed. The Board did not adopt any binding capital project at the meeting; discussion focused on planning and interagency coordination.
