The presiding officer told senators that more than 500 bills have been assigned to committee and urged members to read bills ahead of committee meetings this week and next.
Senators announced committee schedules and public events: Senator DeBarr said the Education Committee will not meet today but will convene tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. in Room 216; Senator McCaughn reminded the Government Structure Committee it will meet shortly after recess in Room 210. Senator Delano and Senator Norwood announced appropriation subcommittee hearings, including a 1:30 p.m. session in Room 210 to take up agencies such as Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, DEQ, the Public Service Commission staff, public utilities, and the Department of Corrections.
Senator Michelle announced White Coat Day at the Capitol and a presentation of the 2025 public health report card at 1:30 p.m. on the second-floor rotunda, and invited senators to the Mississippi Ambulance Alliance reception at 5:30 p.m. Senator Fillinghain noted the Empower Mississippi summit at the Westin downtown featuring Tim Tebow and shuttle arrangements.
Procedural motions on the floor included voice votes to dispense with the reading of the journal, committee reports, and the titles of bills and resolutions; those motions were moved by Senator Blackwell and were approved as announced by the presiding officer. Late in the session Senator Baldwin moved that the Senate stand in recess until 5 p.m. (or until the last committee report is filed) with the calendar to reflect adjournment until 10 a.m. tomorrow; the motion passed by voice vote and the Senate recessed.
