Senator Kirby, who called the measure up from the calendar, asked for the "usual motion" and members voted by voice to adopt the resolution. The resolution names head coach David Duggan and directs that the commendation be presented to Coach Duggan, the team, and Jackson Academy leadership.
Head coach David Duggan addressed the chamber, thanking Senator Chasnall for the invitation and praising the program. "This championship wasn't won by talent alone. It was earned through early mornings, late nights, discipline, and belief in one another," Duggan said. He credited the players for holding one another accountable and described the team as "player-led." Duggan also thanked the Jackson Academy administration, assistant coaches, families and fans for their support.
Senators invited the team forward for photographs and for team captains to present a gift to Senator Chasnall. By unanimous consent, Senators Michelle and Blackwell were added as cosponsors to SR 2. The resolution was to be forwarded to Jackson Academy and presented to the school's head of school and board of trustees as noted in the title read by the clerk.
The chamber recessed after additional calendar business and announcements; the resolution and the coach's remarks were the primary ceremonial actions recorded before recess.
