Oelrichs School District board approves $50,000 transfer, sets June 2 election and hears construction update

The Oelrichs School District 23-3 Board of Education unanimously approved several routine actions at its Jan. 20, 2026, meeting, including a $50,000 transfer from Impact Aid to the district food-service account and the establishment of a combined school board election with Fall River County on June 2, 2026.
Dr. Mitchell Stone, superintendent, told the board that the district’s consolidated application was approved and that Impact Aid applications for lines 7002 and 7003 have been submitted. Stone said he is interested in applying for a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant to support after-school academic enrichment, gave a general update on high school construction and on sports activities, and noted the NAFIS conference scheduled for March 15–17. Stone also introduced Robin Gillespie to the board.
On the financial front, the board approved a motion to transfer $50,000 from the Impact Aid fund to the Food Service account (motion: Marty Schommer; second: Katie Merdanian). The board separately accepted unaudited financial reports and authorized payment of invoiced claims (motion: Lance Tlustos; second: Merdanian). The minutes include summarized balances for district funds, noting a sizable Impact Aid balance and other fund totals; the board recorded the motions as unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Separately, the board approved a lane-change personnel pay adjustment for teacher James Willmas, increasing his contract by $1,000 effective February 2026 (motion: Marty Schommer; second: Lance Tlustos). The board also approved early graduation for two students who completed state requirements in the first semester (motion: Katie Merdanian; second: Marty Schommer) and authorized Superintendent Stone to grant initial enrollments with final approval reserved for the next board meeting (motion: Lance Tlustos; second: Merdanian).
Board President John Cope called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.; the meeting adjourned at 5:31 p.m. and the minutes were attested by Superintendent Dr. Mitchell Stone.
