The Traffic Safety Committee voted July 21 to update curbside parking in front of the post office on 5th Street (between Dolores and San Carlos) from a 24‑hour, 10‑minute limit to the city’s standard 8 a.m.–7 p.m., two‑hour restriction.
Rob Culver explained the 24‑hour 10‑minute on‑street limit was implemented when the post office had round‑the‑clock box access; with the lobby now routinely locked nightly (staff said the lobby has been locked around 10 p.m. recently), Culver and committee members agreed it makes sense to align the on‑street limit with downtown standards.
Committee members discussed whether the on‑street timing should be tied to the actual lobby lock time (the lobby has been locked about 10 p.m.), but decided not to change the post office lot hours because that item was not on the agenda. Chief Todd Traer said it would be cleaner to make the curb regulations consistent with the rest of downtown: “Make it all the same uniform.”
A motion to update the 5th Street signage to 8 a.m.–7 p.m., two‑hour parking was made by Chief Todd Traer and seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Staff will update city signs; the committee asked staff to report back at a future meeting if complaints or operational problems arise.
