Committee advances bill to set up America250 account to manage previously allocated funds

The Senate State Affairs Committee voted March 19 to send H 357 to the 14th Order for possible amendment. Senator Adams said the bill would establish an America250 Commemoration Fund and an America250 Advisory Committee to manage celebrations marking the nation’s 250th birthday.
Representative Mitchell told the committee that $1.6 million was set aside by HCR 31 of 2024 and that H 357 does not appropriate new funding but creates an account to oversee and accept donations to support the commemoration. Senator Toews moved to send the bill to the 14th Order for possible amendment; Senator Anthon seconded the motion, which carried by voice vote.
The bill will return to the committee calendar if sponsors file amendments to the enabling language or oversight provisions.
