The Nottingham Select Board voted to appoint Steve Welch to fill the seat vacated by John Decker and administered the oath of office to Welch. The appointment runs through the next town election in March 2027.
Board members discussed options for filling the vacancy after Chair Matt Sheryl read a resignation letter from John Decker citing medical reasons. Charlotte Fife moved to accept Steve Welch's offer to serve; Anna Ryan seconded the motion and the board approved it on a roll-call vote. Immediately after the vote the board administered the oath: "I, Steve Welch, do solemnly swear..." (Steve Welch).
The board also reassigned Decker's duties. Town staff confirmed committee coverage: Adam will take CIP responsibilities; Matt Sheryl will serve as recreation/recycling liaison; John Morin will cover the police department liaison; Charlotte Fife remains on facilities. Members said the changes are intended to preserve continuity while the board prepares for the March election.
The appointment and committee reassignments were procedural votes recorded during the public portion of the July 20 meeting. No written challenge or dissent was recorded during the vote. The board then continued with other agenda items.
Next procedural steps: the appointed member will serve until the March 2027 election; the board indicated it may advertise future openings if additional candidates express interest.
