Selectmen tell Singletrack operator to pause new trail work, demand accurate maps and signage for Abenaki trails

Following site visits and reports of unmarked, altered or newly built trails, the board directed staff to ask the trail operator to stop further construction until comprehensive maps, permanent signage, maintenance plans, and clear build plans are provided.
The selectmen on May 20 ordered a pause on additional bike‑trail construction at the Abenaki property until staff and the board receive legible maps, named trails, completed signs and an agreed operations/maintenance plan.
Board members said maps provided to date were inconsistent with on‑the‑ground trail locations, some trails lacked names or signage, and at least one culvert near a parking area had been damaged by bikes. Selectman Brian (speaker 7) and others described visits where trails on the map could not be located on the ground and where newly built features had not been approved.
Miss Murray moved — and the board seconded — to stop additional trail construction, have staff draft a letter ordering the operator to halt building, and to convene a stakeholder meeting with the trail operator, staff and board to produce a master map and maintenance plan. The board asked staff to work with the operator on a timeline for signage, trail naming, and any necessary repairs to culverts and crossings.
