The Estacada City Council voted June 1 to approve a $1,200 sponsorship for the Estacada Area Support Our Troops Foundation to help maintain the veterans memorial and cover periodic costs such as electricity, water, engraving and bark-dust.
Rita, speaking for the foundation, described declining donations and the need to order new engraved bricks and pay freight/engraving costs. She said the foundation has been subsidizing upkeep and asked for support to keep the memorial in good condition for visitors and for scheduled Memorial Day and Veterans Day events.
Council members asked about the details of the request, and staff stated that an approved $1,200 sponsorship would leave $3,800 available in the current grant program budget for the rest of the fiscal year. Councilor (speaker_6) moved to approve the sponsorship; a second was recorded and the motion passed by voice vote.
Rita thanked the council and said the funds would allow the foundation to proceed with pressure washing, bark dust ordering and completing engraving work. Council and staff also discussed possible city maintenance assistance going forward and coordination with downtown commissions to assist with engraving and mounting granite facets.
Next step: City will disburse $1,200 per the sponsorship program and staff will continue coordinating with the foundation on maintenance logistics.
