Southwest ISD trustees approve consent items, contracts and program purchases; several votes pass

Facilities: The board approved a contract with the district-standard vendor FACS to replace the obsolete fire alarm panel, devices and strobes at McNair Middle School for a contract amount of $240,995 to be funded from 2023 bond funds; district facilities staff said the work is planned to be completed before the first day of school.
Instructional materials and programs: Trustees approved a purchase of IXL student licenses (K–5 intervention) for $114,375 to be paid from Title I funds; staff said the district previously used grant money to offset this purchase and is moving ongoing licensing to Title I funds.
Endorsement and personnel: The board endorsed Rodina Bernal for the TASB Region 20 position; trustees also voted to accept the superintendent's personnel recommendations (resignations, reassignments, leaves and contract renewals) after returning from closed session.
Legal direction: After closed session, trustees moved to accept the superintendent and school's attorney's recommendation and directed the superintendent and district counsel to proceed with settlement negotiations concerning anticipated special education litigation before a state hearing officer; the board approved that direction.
