Resident seeks traffic-calming on Ocean View Drive; police to study enforcement and signs

Matt Franzalia, a resident of Ocean View Drive, told the commission delivery drivers, ride-hailing services and unfamiliar motorists have increased speeding risks on his block and asked the town to study traffic-calming options, such as speed humps, cushions and additional speed-limit signage. He said 15 neighbors responded in favor of measures when he surveyed the block.
The police chief said the department enforces local traffic laws and provided recent enforcement counts for March, noting nighttime enforcement is a focus. Commissioners asked staff and the chief to study speed limits in the area, check ownership of an adjacent open lot for placement of calming measures and return with options.
Why it matters: narrow one-way residential streets with limited sidewalks can pose risks to pedestrians and residents. The commission directed staff to investigate calming measures and report back.
