Selectboard declines early Roy Plumbing bid for town-garage boiler, holds brief executive session

The Sandgate Selectboard reviewed questions from Roy Plumbing on June 15 about why the company's bid for the Town Garage boiler project was not selected. According to the board's account, the bids were due April 28. Roy told the board it was the only bid submitted by that date but was later asked to revise the quote after board requests. An alternate later bid from Don Latif included a detailed breakdown and was substantially lower, and the Selectboard said the Request for Proposals (RFP) preserved the town's right to reject any bid.
The Selectboard moved into executive session from 6:51 to 7:00 p.m. and returned with no decisions. The board directed Tom Yandow to relay their explanation to Roy and invited Roy to come to a meeting to discuss the matter further.
No formal vote to award or reject the contract was recorded at the meeting; the board framed its explanation around fiscal responsibility and procurement transparency.
