Box Butte County commissioners approve zoning agreement, table dozens of property valuation notices

Box Butte County commissioners met in Alliance on July 1, 2026, and approved a zoning regulations agreement with Ayers Associates Inc. while tabling multiple Board of Equalization property valuation notices until a July 22 meeting.
Chairman Steve Burke called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m. and the board recorded that public notice of the meeting had been published and the agenda posted. Commissioner Brett Ditsch moved to approve the Consent Calendar, which included the July 1 agenda and the June 17 minutes; Commissioner Mike Sautter seconded and the motion carried unanimously (Ditsch, Sautter, Burke).
In Board of Equalization business opened at 8:35 a.m., County Assessor Michelle Robinson presented a series of Board Notices for properties identified as over- or under-valued. Commissioner Mike Sautter moved to table the notices for Property IDs 070196990, 070208239, 070218013, 070248354, 070100136, 070130531, 070076081, 070076103, 070076138, 070083312, 070075816, 070082383, 070082472, 070112002, 070210136, 070252386, 070073120, 070095582, 070200939, 070240493, 070073945, 070075611, 070047561, 070073775, 070084386, 070079633, 070054169, 070223955, 070046891, 070099251, 070075115, 070106649, 070214468, 070097658, and 070209766 until the July 22, 2026 meeting; Chairman Burke seconded. The motion passed unanimously (Ditsch, Sautter, Burke). Chairman Burke closed the Board of Equalization at 8:57 a.m.
Later in the agenda, Commissioner Mike Sautter moved to approve the Zoning Regulations Agreement 2026-20 with Ayers Associates Inc., as amended; Commissioner Brett Ditsch seconded. That motion also passed unanimously (Ditsch, Sautter, Burke).
The board heard a services overview and legislative update from Candace Meredith, NACO Deputy Director; no action was taken on that presentation. Road Superintendent Barb Keegan delivered the road and equipment report. Building and Grounds employee Lori White updated the board on the condition of a courthouse tree; the commissioners asked Extension Educator John Thomas to evaluate the tree and report back. Region 1 representatives were noted as unable to attend to discuss available services.
