The Burley City Council voted June 24 to accept a $105,500 federal SS4A (Safe Streets and Roads for All) grant and authorized the mayor to sign the award documents.
City Engineer Dave Waldron told the council the grant-funded work would allow permissive red-light control — enabling fire trucks to control traffic signals during responses — and would place delineators to define permitted right-turn lanes at the Walmart/DL Evans Bank intersection. Waldron said the grant award is $105,500 and that the city’s required share is $26,375; he added staff are confident the project can be completed for less than the combined total.
Waldron also clarified the grant timeline: the performance period is 24 months after the Federal Highway representative signs the grant paperwork.
Council President Casey Andersen moved to approve acceptance of the grant and allow the mayor to sign the agreement; Councilmember Janet Hansen seconded. A roll-call vote was recorded with all six councilmembers voting aye; the motion passed 6-0.
No amendments to the scope were recorded at the meeting. Implementation tasks and scheduling were not detailed beyond the 24-month performance window stated by staff.
