Parent survey: Southwest ISD parents report high confidence in safety, communications and mobile app; some concerns about meals and bus reliability

An administrator presenting the district’s 2026 parent climate survey said more than 1,354 parents responded—more than double the prior year—and that the data will serve as a baseline for future comparisons.
The presenter listed four key strengths identified by parents: safety, campus relationships, communications and the district mobile app. She said 88% of responding parents consider safety a priority and 85% agree Southwest ISD provides a safe learning environment; 92% rated district notifications and alerts as helpful and the mobile app received strong satisfaction marks.
On safety-related measures, the presenter reported 86% of parents supported metal detectors, 80% supported random screenings, and 72% supported clear backpacks. On transportation, more than 90% of parents who use bus services said the service meets family needs but about 12% disagreed that buses consistently arrive on time. Child-nutrition responses showed 62% of families enjoy the meals and 38% do not; some parents reported children returning home hungry.
The presenter said the district will conduct a deeper review with child nutrition to separate high-school and elementary results and will follow up with department heads to refine questions and plans for next year.
