Sedlacek said staff are meeting with SolumLang every other week and that at the July 23 meeting the city expects to have a number to submit to the county for a bond issue. The update was informational; no formal action or vote on the project occurred at the July 13 meeting.
Resident J. Cambridge described results from a Facebook survey, saying that some members of the public would like amenities such as a walking track and a swimming pool included in planning discussions while the city works on the fire station/administration facility. "Members would like to see different things like a walking track, swimming pool, etc., while working on building the fire station/admin building," Cambridge said.
In council comments, Assistant law-enforcement staff (referred to in the minutes as a deputy) spoke with the council about enforcement of e-mobility rules: according to the deputy, e-moto bikes cannot be ridden on sidewalks and must be registered and licensed, while e-bikes (pedal-assist) do not require additional registration to be ridden in town. Council members also raised other community concerns, including a request that the Iowa City Humane Society follow up on a matter and a report that a large RV parked in a right-of-way is blocking sight lines on the south side of town. Council Member Hudachek asked whether the city could implement an online complaint form so residents could submit issues without visiting the office.
No votes were taken on building scope or amenities at the July 13 meeting; staff will continue design and budgeting work ahead of the July 23 timeline noted by Sedlacek.
