Clermont council hears community center update and endorses GMA District 2 nominees

Mayor James Nix told the council May 5 that the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) had sent an official ballot listing nominees for District 2 officers and that the council was in favor of the slate. The nominees reported in the meeting minutes were: President — Mark C. Reed, Commissioner, Cornelia; Vice President — Courtney Umbehant, Mayor, Lavonia; Second Vice President — Josh Turner, Mayor, City of Cleveland; Third Vice President — Shawn Allen, Council Member, Demorest. Mayor Nix said he will sign the ballot and submit it by email to GMA.
Town Clerk Amy Lomax informed the council that the Community Center project is nearly complete: paint, carpet, sound panels and mini-split units have been installed. Lomax said the town will change the locks this week as a final security step.
