Superintendent Dr. Myers updated the Holcomb School Board on several operational matters ahead of the new school year.
Dr. Myers laid out the back-to-school calendar (teacher induction and lunch at 8:00; a barbecue event on the 12th at the Swimming Pool Park; convocation on Aug. 15 and the first day of school on Aug. 19, including a half day for students). He said administration will circulate final times prior to those dates.
On facilities, Dr. Myers said the district completed an irrigation and drainage improvement by the middle school and pool access road and will monitor the results after the next rain to confirm standing-water issues are resolved.
He also reported the city has transferred ownership of a message board to the district; administration plans to bring a motion at the next board meeting to accept the board as a district asset and to identify a placement (discussion noted a potential pocket park along Railroad Road).
Dr. Myers added that the district’s recent “rollout” metric was about 4.7 percent and noted headcount trends will affect budget planning; he said administration budgets conservatively to account for enrollment variability.
Board members asked clarifying questions but did not withhold approval on related follow-ups; administration will bring the message-board acceptance motion at the next meeting.
