Commission enacts six-month moratorium on data-center rezonings

The chair said the moratorium follows a work session in which commissioners asked for more time for planning staff and legal review before entertaining rezoning requests for data centers. "We need an opportunity for our planning and zoning, our attorneys, and consult with the state to give us a moratorium for 6 months before we entertain doing a rezoning," the chair said.
Commissioners did not debate amendments to the resolution during the meeting. The action pauses new data-center rezoning submissions but, according to the chair's description on the floor, does not automatically change existing approvals or active permits; staff are to report back with recommended language and timelines during the moratorium period. The commission did not record an individual roll-call vote on the motion; the body affirmed the motion by voice.
