The USD 363 Board of Education approved several insurance actions, voting to accept a property and casualty insurance program and workers' compensation coverage recommended by the superintendent and the district's broker.
Trent Speck of Iron Insurance Partners told the board the district's property and casualty premium decreased to $332,472.07 after broader market stabilization and the growth of the Kicks insurance pool: "This year it's 332,472.07," he said. The broker noted the pool now includes roughly 160 schools and that a prior large claim helped shape coverage choices and deductibles.
The board also approved workers' compensation coverage through Iron Insurance (under RAS) for $73,390. The superintendent explained that the district's mod factor rose due to earlier high‑severity claims, producing a short‑term increase in workers' comp costs even as overall risk management improved.
Separately, the board approved annual student accident (athlete) insurance from K & K with a $1,000,000 catastrophic limit at a total premium of $10,970.83. "I recommend the board purchase some low option student accident insurance coverage from K and K and includes a $1,000,000 catastrophic coverage for the total cost of $10,970.83," the superintendent said.
All three insurance actions were approved by voice vote.
