Board adopts KASB policy updates, approves new accounting text and schedules strategic-planning session

"I do recommend the board approve the 2nd reading of the KASB proposed policy adjustments and accept them as presented," he told the board; the motion passed by voice vote.
On curriculum, the board approved adopting Cengage Century 21 Accounting, 11th edition, for high-school business, described as an incremental update from the district's existing 10th edition and a minimal-cost purchase.
For district planning, the board approved scheduling a special meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24 to advance a five-year strategic plan. The superintendent said the district received 242 community surveys and held two community focus groups (27 and 21 participants) that informed four priority areas: facilities and resources, student success, staff, and communication/culture/community. The special meeting will use small-group workshops led by a facilitator (Dr. Steve Carlin) and is intended to produce a draft strategic plan for board consideration in March or April.
