Board begins process to replace Holcomb high school track; turf option debated

Board members debated options. One trustee urged the district to consider installing a turf-ready curb during the track rebuild so a future turf field could be added without re-excavating the track. Another member warned that turf carries ongoing maintenance costs and injury concerns. "Even if part is donated, it has to be maintained," one member said, cautioning about recurring expenses.
No vote was taken. Trustees directed the superintendent to solicit multiple bids, compare options and return with more detailed cost and schedule information. Dr. Myers said he would pursue several providers to get "apples-to-apples" estimates and prefer starting construction in late spring or the next fiscal year to minimize conflicts with athletics.
