Holcomb USD 363 board approves up to $1.3 million bid to replace high‑school track

The USD 363 Board of Education on Monday approved a contract authorization to replace the Holcomb High School track, voting to accept a Mammoth bid with a not‑to‑exceed cap of $1.3 million to allow for stabilization and construction contingencies.

The superintendent recommended replacing the track after an especially damaging winter and presented a geotechnical stabilization estimate of $78,000 that lowered earlier cost expectations. "Preliminarily we thought it was going to be somewhere in the price of $94,000 to stabilize the dirt. It came in at $78,000," the superintendent said, citing the district's site work assessment. He told the board the full bid including stabilization called for a contract of about $1,147,000 and proposed the $1.3 million ceiling to cover likely overages.

Board members discussed timing and logistics for fall athletics: contractors would need to schedule work in July, and the district will temporarily provide a plywood bridge over the track for cheerleaders and players to access the field during the season. "They would start in July," the superintendent said when asked about the schedule.
