Council proclaims Oct. 5'11 Public Power Week; staff outlines KPP activities

The Hillsboro City Council proclaimed Oct. 5'11 as Public Power Week to recognize the city's publicly owned electric utility and to kick off participation in the Kansas Power Pool (KPP) competition.
Stiles described the KPP points-based competition and a calendar of planned community activities that can earn points, such as school events, library story time, EV car shows and staff appreciation events. "That's the first full week of October," Stiles said, referring to the dates of Oct. 5 through Oct. 11, and urged staff and council to support community programming that highlights the utility's service.
Mayor Lou Thurston proclaimed the week on the council's behalf and noted Hillsboro has won the KPP trophy in recent years. The proclamation recognizes the utility as a community-owned, not-for-profit electric provider and encourages local education and outreach during the designated week.
