Robbie Overson, vice president of the Utah Recycling Alliance, presented results from a CHARM (collection of hard‑to‑recycle material) event held in Cottonwood Heights. Overson said the event handled 304 vehicles and diverted 13,824 pounds of material in roughly three hours, with e‑waste constituting about 4,400 pounds of that total.
"That's the largest event we've ever had by, like, 22 vehicles," Overson told the council, describing rapid growth from earlier years (112 vehicles in 2025; 75 vehicles in 2024). He explained the event model — volunteers, partner recyclers (AssetWorks for e‑waste), and logistics with two intake lines — and said participants rate the program highly (53 of 61 survey respondents scored it a 10). Overson asked the council to consider continued partnership; the alliance’s stated goal is one CHARM event per city per year across the Wasatch Front.
Council members and staff praised the event’s efficiency and environmental benefit and asked about the alliance’s capacity for additional events; Overson said seasonality (March–November) and logistics currently limit frequency but potential indoor options (an expo center) could extend the season.
The council expressed appreciation and indicated support for continued collaboration.
