Board allows South Indivisible vigil at library grounds with insurance and no amplified sound

Leah Kramer, representing South Indivisible of southern Indianapolis and Johnson County, asked to use the green space adjacent to the Greenwood Public Library (near Serena and South Madison avenues) on Aug. 29 for a visual vigil as part of a statewide weekend of actions. Kramer told the board the group expects about 30–35 people and said the group has held similar events at that site before.
City staff warned the Fieldhouse Plaza area may undergo construction and could be fenced off; staff advised the group to check with Lauren Hubler in the city clerk’s office and to provide any required insurance documentation. The board approved the permit request on the condition the group secure the required insurance and avoid amplified sound. Kramer confirmed the group does not use sound for previous events and agreed the conditions were acceptable.
The board asked staff to work with the organizers to confirm a final location if construction requires a short relocation to nearby green space and to complete any necessary administrative steps before the event.
