Ellsworth board moves health benefits to self-funded model, disposes old truck and approves handbook change

The Ellsworth Board on June 8 approved several administrative and policy items, including a move to a self-funded health-benefits model and disposal of a district vehicle.
Board Member Jake Svaty moved, and Board Member Brian Rush seconded, to approve disposal of a district-owned 1989 dump truck; the motion passed 5-0. Board Member Cynthia Edgerle then moved to approve switching the district’s health benefits to a self-funded model with Greenbush Healthtrust; the motion, seconded by Mr. Svaty, passed 5-0.
Policy IIBGC, JCDC and JCAC were presented for first reading; no final action was taken on those policies at this meeting. The Board also approved revised student-handbook language regarding messaging between students and employees (motion by Cynthia Edgerle; second by Steve Shepherd), which passed 5-0. Separately, Pam Idleman of iServe withdrew a custodial-services proposal for the junior/senior high school.
Laura Leis, director of curriculum and instruction, presented state-assessment and FastBridge results in English language arts and mathematics as informational data during the meeting; the presentation did not require a vote.
The meeting closed after further executive sessions and routine adjournment at 9:00 p.m.
