Eudora officials say FY 2027 budget is on track; plan to shift costs to settlement and CIP funds

Assistant to the City Manager Michael Gentry presented the Eudora City Commission with a budget forecast for the remainder of FY 2026 and for FY 2027, saying the city is in a "comfortable position" to move forward with planned projects without drawing additional General Fund support.
Gentry said staff plan to make "creative use" of restricted or designated funds — specifically citing the Opioid Settlement Fund and Parks and Recreation capital improvement program (CIP) purchases — to finance select projects. He told commissioners no formal action was requested at the meeting.
City Manager Zack Daniel said staff will use upcoming community events, including a booth at the CPA Picnic, to share information about programs and to brief residents on a sales tax proposal that will appear on a future local election ballot. Daniel also noted he will attend the Wichita State University City and County Management Summit on June 10 and introduced the City's new Management Fellow, Noah Kincaid.
Assistant Gentry added that six rebates remain available in the City's Property Tax Rebate Program. Fire Chief Justin Lee requested collection buckets to offer residents a safer place to dispose of fireworks and reduce trash-can fires; Lee's request was presented as an operational public-safety suggestion rather than a formal agenda item.
No vote was taken on the forecast at the June 8 meeting. The presentation is expected to inform budget deliberations later in the FY 2027 planning process, with formal proposals to be returned to the commission for consideration.
