Eudora highlights staff milestones, parks projects and community events; executive session reconvenes on development legal matters

At the May 11 meeting the Eudora City Commission heard a series of staff reports and community announcements before entering an extended executive session for attorney consultation.
HR Manager Susie Yuran provided a quarterly staffing update, reporting five volunteer firefighters, one seasonal maintenance worker, one journeyman lineman and one management fellow were hired in the past quarter; staff also recognized employees reaching service milestones of five, 15, 20 and 25 years. Assistant to the City Manager Michael Gentry presented the Q1 budget update and said funds are performing as expected; he also reported the City began accepting applications for the Property Tax Rebate Program and received more than a dozen applications on the first day.
Parks and Recreation Director Sally Pennington announced Pilla Park will break ground May 18 and the Eudora Aquatic Center is scheduled to open June 1; she also reported the department will host 166 sports games over eight weeks. Fire Chief Justin Lee noted recent recruit training and a recent en-route birth and public-safety outreach through a Summer Safety Series at the farmers market. Police Chief Wes Lovett announced Lunch with Law Enforcement at the elementary school next Wednesday.
Later the commission recessed into executive session at 8:10 p.m. under KSA 75-4319(b)(2) for attorney consultation on development matters; the session was extended twice and the meeting reconvened at 8:56 p.m. The minutes record that no action was taken after the executive session and the commission adjourned.
