Eudora proclaims Public Service Recognition Week and sets budget, bid and meeting dates

The Eudora City Commission declared May 3–9 as Public Service Recognition Week and heard several calendar and project updates during its April 27 meeting.
Human Resources Manager Susie Yuran said staff appreciate the week of recognition, which marks the City's ninth year of formally observing Public Service Recognition Week with breakfasts, lunches, Office Olympics and recognition of employees reaching five-, 10-, 15- and 20-year milestones. She invited the Mayor and commissioners to participate in the events.
City Manager Zack Daniel said the May 11 meeting will begin the 2027 budget process with a 6:00 p.m. work session and include the Citizens' Academy graduation recognition. He also announced a special meeting on May 28 at 7:00 p.m. to consider Pilla Park construction bids; the City must award the bid before the end of May to comply with CDBG regulations. Daniel added that a June 8 work session at 6:00 p.m. will include the CVB and Chamber to discuss economic development and MOUs. He told commissioners vendors have signaled an estimated 2% increase in costs tied to potential tariffs, and the Budget Team will monitor that impact while preparing the 2027 budget.
Parks and Recreation Director Sally Pennington previewed the first Farmers' Market on May 5 and a full summer of recreation activities; Fire Chief Justin Lee said the ladder truck scheduled for order in January is expected to require roughly two years for delivery.
