Ellsworth board approves hires, transfers, resignations, retirements and $1,000 early-notice payment to superintendent

After holding executive sessions on student confidentiality and non-elected personnel, the Ellsworth Board of Education approved a slate of personnel actions and a payment to the superintendent on Feb. 9.
On a motion by Ashley Bohl, seconded by Brian Rush, the board approved hiring Judy Ruckman as a bus driver/attendant; transfers effective in the 2026–2027 school year moving Kenneth Cravens from EJSHS Industrial Arts to the superintendent's office and Eric Anderson from EJSHS Physics/Chemistry to Industrial Arts; and accepted resignations including Reagan Deines (night custodian), and coaching and sponsor resignations listed in the minutes. The motion passed 6–0.
The board also approved retirements recorded in the minutes: Kim Whetzel, Superintendent Administrative Assistant, effective Jan. 15, 2027; and Christi Walter, EJSHS math teacher, effective at the end of the 2025–2026 school year. Later in the meeting the board approved a $1,000 early-notification payment to Superintendent Deena Hilbig for providing early notice of her retirement; that motion was moved by Ashley Bohl, seconded by Brian Rush and passed 6–0.
All personnel approvals were recorded in the minutes without roll-call vote lists. The minutes show the board conducted multiple executive sessions to discuss confidential student information and non-elected personnel under KOMA exceptions prior to taking the personnel votes.
