Eudora OKs hydro-vac trailer purchase and gate motor replacement for Public Works

The Eudora City Commission on April 27 authorized two Public Works procurements: purchase of a 2026 HURCO VAC600 hydro-vac trailer and a service agreement to replace the motor on the Public Works compound gate.
Director of Public Works Branden Boyd said the 2026 budget allocated $133,410 for the hydro-vac trailer and staff recommended buying the HURCO VAC600 from Key Equipment & Supply Co. for $107,470. He noted vendor quotes included pricing-change clauses because of potential tariffs and that training for operators will be provided. Boyd said the equipment lifespan is typically about 15 years and that the motor comes with a two-year warranty while other components carry a one-year warranty; Key Equipment does not offer an extended warranty.
Boyd also told commissioners the gate motor is no longer manufactured and the existing gate is over 25 years old; because the City is mandated to secure the water treatment plant, staff recommended replacing the motor only. The Commission authorized a service agreement with Wirenuts, LLC for up to $15,640 for the gate motor replacement. Both authorizations passed unanimously.
Procurement and fleet staff will schedule training and integrate the hydro-vac into maintenance rotations for valve work and other operational tasks.
