Dartmouth School Committee approves Carnegie Hall trip, band concession, extends special-education transport contract and other votes

The Dartmouth School Committee approved a series of routine motions at its June 8 meeting, including a district-wide music department field trip to New York City, permission for the DHS marching band to operate stadium concessions for fall 2026, a one-year extension of the special-education transportation contract, an end-of-year allocation authorization for FY26 funds and the reappointment of the superintendent to a regional board.
Field trip to New York City: The Committee voted 5–0 to approve the Dartmouth Public Schools music department trip to Carnegie Hall from April 24–28, 2027. The motion to approve was made by John Nunes and seconded by Elizabeth Coughlin.
DHS marching band concession: The Committee approved a request allowing the DHS marching band and color guard to operate the stadium concession stand during the 2026 football season. The motion, moved by John Nunes and seconded by Chris Oliver, passed 4–0–1 with John Nunes recorded as abstaining.
Special-education transportation contract extension: The Committee approved a one-year extension of the district's special-education transportation contract with Tremblay Bus Company LLC for the 2026–27 school year, at the same cost as 2025–26. James Kiely reported Tremblay's ownership is being sold to Student Transportation of America and that most Tremblay staff, including Luke Tetreault, will remain in consultant capacities. The motion was moved by John Nunes and seconded by Kathleen Amaral and carried unanimously, 5–0.
FY26 end-of-year authorization: Under School Committee Policy BDJ, the Committee approved transfer authority to allocate remaining FY26 funds toward strategic-plan priorities such as curriculum materials and technology. The motion was moved by Chris Oliver and seconded by Elizabeth Coughlin and carried 5–0.
South Coast Educational Collaborative appointment: The Committee reappointed Superintendent June Saba-Maguire to serve as the Dartmouth Public Schools representative on the South Coast Educational Collaborative Board of Directors for the 2026–27 school year. The motion was moved by Chris Oliver, seconded by Elizabeth Coughlin and passed 5–0.
Executive session and adjournment: The Committee voted to adjourn into executive session at 7:34 p.m. under M.G.L. c. 30A, § 21(a)(2) to discuss strategy regarding non-union personnel and did not return to open session; the roll call vote carried 5–0.
