Residents raise speeding concerns; fire chief warns of imminent fire weather

At the March 13 meeting of the Edgerton City Council, a resident and city officials raised several community items: neighborhood speeding, a burn-weather advisory and a finance report clarification.
Resident Riley Shepherd, who said he and his wife are newer residents expecting their first child, asked the council for more speed signage and "Children at Play" signs on W. 8th Street (posted at 35 mph) because he observed vehicles he estimated were traveling well above the limit.
Chief Morley advised the council that a fire weather event begins the next morning and urged residents to report any signs of fire early; he said the department planned additional staffing for the week, and that current wind and weather conditions made burning unfavorable.
Finance Director Karen Kindle reviewed the fourth-quarter finance report and corrected an investment income allocation error, explaining the Capital Projects Fund had been incorrectly included in the Income Portfolio allocation. She reported year-end results remained within reserve requirements and budget authority.
Council agreed to have staff follow up on resident communications about speed signage and to post or otherwise clarify how residents contact the fire district for burn permits and fire information.
