Edgerton approves Frontier Days street closures, no-parking zones and limited alcohol sales

The Edgerton City Council approved a package of resolutions to allow street closures, no-parking zones, facility use and limited alcoholic liquor sales for the Summer Kickoff Block Party (June 7) and the Edgerton Frontier Days festival (June 20–21).
Parks staff presented street-closure plans and maps. For Frontier Days, closures include Nelson Street (between East 3rd and East 5th), segments of East 4th and East Hulett Streets and additional closures for parade staging; temporary no-parking zones were also approved for specified streets and sides. Staff will notify the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson County Fire District No. 1 and Johnson County Med-Act.
The council recognized Frontier Days as a “public festival” to waive city noise restrictions on festival evenings and, following a public hearing with no public comment, approved a waiver of the municipal 200-foot prohibition to permit the sale and consumption of alcoholic liquor in a designated area on Nelson Street under defined hours. The special event permit requires that alcohol sales be from a covered tent staffed by licensed vendors, that no alcohol be sold in glass containers and that required vendor insurance and hold-harmless agreements be submitted. Council approved all related resolutions and permits by unanimous votes.
Staff also recommended a series of city services for the festival—permits fee waivers for certain groups, event dumpsters, barricading, staff public-safety liaisons and coordination with the Sheriff’s Office—subject to receipt of completed special-event permit materials. Council approved these support measures 3–0.
