Museum lease renewed at $1 per year; council presses for improved fire detection

Parks and Recreation Director Levi Meyer presented a one-year facility use and maintenance agreement with the Edgerton Historic Society continuing a long-standing $1-per-year lease for the Edgerton Community Museum. Council approved the agreement for 2025 with a $1 lease rate.
Councilmember Ron Conus asked about fire detection in the building because much of the city’s historical material is housed there. Museum curator Charlie Troutner said the building has smoke alarms (one upstairs and one downstairs) and fire extinguishers, and that batteries likely need replacing; he also said the museum board had previously declined to install a monitored alarm. Conus encouraged the curator to raise the monitored alarm question with the board again.
