Edgerton approves $80-per-hour sheriff deputies for after-hours Greenspace events

The Edgerton City Council approved an agreement to provide dedicated Johnson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies for Greenspace facility rentals that occur after normal business hours or include alcohol.
Parks staff presented the arrangement, which requires the City to give a minimum 14-day notice to JCSO for events needing dedicated security. The City will pay $80 per hour per deputy; these charges will be passed to event organizers via the facility security fee. The sheriff retains discretion to refuse requests and is not obligated to provide a specific number of deputies.
Captain Dan Dierks of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office thanked the City and indicated the agreement would appear on JCSO’s agenda the following week. City Administrator Beth Linn and Parks Director Levi Meyer described the program as a partnership to keep events safe.
Council approved the agreement 3–0. Staff will implement the notice procedures and update Greenspace rental materials to reflect the new security fee.
