Council approves $52,468 change order after unexpected conditions on Dwyer Farms sewer work

Public Works Director Dan Merkh told council that during installation of an open-cut section of a bored casing pipe beneath the BNSF railroad adjacent to South Lake, the subgrade required extra stabilization after the casing settled overnight. To protect pipe slope and manhole placement, staff and the contractor developed a mitigation plan to install a concrete base and upgraded bedding. Beemer Construction proposed Change Order #1 in the not-to-exceed amount of $52,468.61, increasing the contract from $747,900 to $800,368.61.
Staff said the project’s substantial completion is scheduled for January/February 2025 and that funding is anticipated initially through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment State Revolving Loan Fund with long-term funding from the Rural Housing Incentive District. Council approved Change Order #1, 5-0.
