Superintendent Debbie Haertling told the Altenburg Public School District #48 Board of Education on May 14 that Maddyson Hecht was named the district’s 2026 valedictorian and Bailey Morrison the 2026 salutatorian.
The board reviewed a short list of summer maintenance tasks: Ashley Steffens and Kim Lohmann will clean carpets in June, the district will not perform floor waxing this summer, and a roof repair is planned for sometime this summer though no date was provided in the minutes. Haertling said she will ask for volunteers to assist; a person listed in the minutes as 'Rick Sachs' is noted to clean up gravel. (The minutes also list 'Richard Sachs' among members present earlier in the record; the transcript contains that name in two forms.)
The minutes also note a school event: 8th graders are scheduled to ring the bell on May 15 at 2:45 p.m.
