4‑H, Special Olympics and a Loyola‑bound coop student recognized at Hancock County meeting

At the June 16 Hancock County Board meeting in Carthage, board members set aside time to recognize local youth organizations and county volunteers.
Madeline Davis told the board that the Hancock County 4‑H program has 220 active members and announced a ribeye dinner fundraiser on July 7; proceeds from the event will be donated to charity. Chairman Mark Menn thanked the 4‑H volunteers for their service to the county.
County Clerk Holly A. Wilde-Tillman introduced Cora Hanks, a coop student who worked in the clerk's office from August to May scanning documents and assisting with back indexing; Ms. Wilde-Tillman said Hanks will attend Loyola and pursue a law degree. The clerk described Hanks as "a great asset."
Amy Graham reported that the Abe Lincoln statue is ready for waxing and that organizers are aiming to have it in place by July 4. The board also acknowledged Special Olympics members in attendance and recognized several medalists.
These recognitions occurred early in the meeting before the board moved into public hearings and formal business. The board recessed at 8:40 p.m.
