Ferrysburg council appoints Conrad Young to vacant seat on council

Ferrysburg — The Ferrysburg City Council appointed Conrad Young Jan. 20 to fill a vacancy on the council through November 2027 and swore him in immediately.
Gary Post, chair of the planning commission, recommended Young as a strong candidate based on two years of working together on planning matters. Young told the council he has lived in Ferrysburg for six years, served on the planning commission and works as a program manager for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. He said his priorities include supporting local businesses, clarifying the city’s capital-improvement plan and increasing community engagement.
Council member DeWitt moved to appoint Young to the seat; the motion was supported and passed on a roll-call vote. The council then administered the oath of office and allowed Young to take his seat for the remainder of the meeting.
Mayor Carlson and several council members praised Young’s temperament and preparation. With the appointment the council filled a seat left vacant earlier; Young will serve until the first meeting in December 2027 and would need to run for election if he seeks a subsequent term.
