Northfield recognizes new fire chief and praises emergency response to flooded condo garage

The Northfield Village Board opened its July 21 meeting by recognizing Michael Milks as the village’s new fire chief and by thanking emergency personnel and public works staff for their response to a serious flooding incident at a 40-unit condominium.
Village Manager Brennan introduced Michael Milks, noting his master’s degree in public administration, bachelor’s degree in fire services and decades of experience with the department. “I’m very proud to introduce our new fire chief for Northfield, Michael Milks,” Brennan said.
During the president’s report, trustees and staff described an emergency at 308 Hap Road in which a water service line ruptured beneath concrete and heaved the slab, filling the underground garage. Brennan said crews found about 7 inches of water depth before the water was shut off. The elevator for the building was rendered out of service, and staff arranged for potable water and portable toilets to be delivered; the village established a mini emergency operations center to coordinate assistance.
Trustees thanked the chiefs, Public Works staff and the condo association for their cooperation. Village President closed the recognition segment and the board moved on to other business.
Next steps: the village will continue to coordinate necessary repairs and resident assistance with the condo association and contractor oversight as needed.
