Northfield board approves $486,648.87 asphalt contract, appoints treasurer and zoning member

The Northfield Village Board approved its consent agenda July 21, awarding the 2026 asphalt resurfacing contract to Schroeder Asphalt Services Inc. for $486,648.87 and consenting to several personnel and administrative actions.

The deputy clerk read five items on the consent agenda: approval of minutes from June 23, 2026; a resolution appointing Tina Smigilski as treasurer; an ordinance declaring certain property surplus; a resolution awarding the 2026 asphalt resurfacing project to Schroeder Asphalt Services Inc. of Marengo, Illinois for $486,648.87; and consent to appoint Sean Dolan to the Plan and Zoning Commission for a four-year term beginning Sept. 1, 2026. The board approved the package by omnibus vote with no member requesting separate consideration.

Village Manager Brennan told trustees that, with a new financial system, payroll remittances and associated checks now appear on the warrant list and are included for board review. He also said the village received the paving bids late and that staff worked with the village of Kenilworth to secure better pricing; funding for the asphalt work will come partly from the Miller fuel tax fund and partly from the capital fund. “The bids did not come in until yesterday, so our engineering team have been very good about digging through, putting big tabulations together, and getting things ready,” Brennan said.

The deputy clerk conducted a roll-call vote; the motion carried. No further comment was offered and trustees moved on to other agenda business.

Next steps: the winning contractor will proceed with project scheduling and the village will execute contract documents consistent with the resolution authorizing the award.
