Grant County commissioners authorize president to negotiate purchase of Main Street Methodist Church

President Tyson Riggleman called a July 6, 2026, special meeting of the Grant County Commission to order at 8:30 a.m. in the courthouse conference room to consider purchasing the Main Street Methodist Church.

Commissioner Scotty Miley moved that the Commission go into executive session under WV Code 6-9a-4 to discuss the matter; the motion was recorded as unanimously approved. Sheriff Steve Wratchford, Chief Deputy Dan Lambert and Realtor Keith Martin appeared before the Commission to discuss the possible purchase.

After the executive session, the Commission recorded that no formal action was taken in the closed session. Commissioner Miley then moved—and the minutes show the motion was unanimously approved—to allow President Riggleman to work with Realtor Keith Martin to negotiate a potential deal to purchase Main Street Methodist Church, with the understanding any final approval must be returned to the Commission for a vote.

The meeting minutes show Commissioner Kevin Hagerty moved to adjourn; the motion was unanimously approved. An attached Exhibit A-3 dated July 7, 2026 records a $25,000 deposit (check #137) to "Mtn. State Realty" described as a deposit to purchase Main St. Methodist Church; the exhibit lists the funding source code as "AARPA" as written in the record.

Next steps recorded in the minutes: President Tyson Riggleman is authorized to negotiate purchase terms with Realtor Keith Martin, and any final purchase agreement must be presented to the full Commission for a vote before the county would complete a purchase.
