Johnson County deputies identify suspects in Edgerton arson, vandalism and burglaries, sheriff’s captain says

Capt. Dan Diercks of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office updated the Edgerton City Council on a string of recent incidents, saying investigators identified two individuals connected to arson, graffiti and a series of burglaries.
Diercks told the council the department linked two people to recent incidents at The Greenspace and the skate park and that those suspects admitted involvement as the investigation progressed. He said arrests have significantly reduced the local caseload and that the suspects are facing prosecution. Deputy Johnson was credited with connecting additional out-of-town suspects to other burglaries; prosecutions for those matters are also underway.
“After successfully identifying the individuals and taking them into custody, it was then that it was admitted they were also associated with the events at The Greenspace and the skatepark,” Diercks said. He also cautioned that some investigatory details could not be shared while cases were active.
Mayor Roberts and councilmembers thanked deputies for the investigation and the improved communication. Diercks encouraged participation in the county’s citizens academy as a way to better understand interagency processes.
What happens next: Arrests have been made and related prosecutions are in progress; the Sheriff’s Office will follow legal constraints on released information while cases proceed.
