Commission recommends annexation of 15110 Highway 1416 to obtain municipal water service

The Box Elder Planning & Zoning Commission voted Aug. 26 to recommend that City Council approve annexation petition 240267 for the parcel at 15110 Highway 1416.
Michelle Clavadach said the property contains one residence and three accessory structures and that the stated purpose of annexation is to obtain municipal water service. "The stated purpose of the request is to obtain municipal water service," Clavadach said. She told commissioners the lot currently relies on a private well and septic system, and that there is not a city sanitary sewer main within 400 feet; under Box Elder municipal code section 42-27(b), if the city later installs a sewer main within 400 feet, the owner would be required to install and connect a sanitary sewer service line at the owner's expense.
A commissioner asked for clarification about utilities and fees: "So just to clarify, they would be able to get water, currently, not sewer, and they would be required to take on the garbage service?" Staff replied that water service could be obtained but sewer was not currently available and that the owner would be billed for water and city garbage service through a utility account.
Following staff presentation and the clarifying exchange, the commission moved and voted to forward the annexation petition to City Council with a recommendation of approval.
