Edgerton hires customer service specialist for The Greenspace and sets employee membership rate

The Edgerton City Council on Jan. 9 introduced Valerie Griffin as the new full-time Customer Service Specialist II for The Greenspace and unanimously approved a staff recommendation to set city employee membership rates at the resident rate.
Parks & Recreation Director Levi Meyer and Recreation Superintendent Brittany Paddock introduced Griffin; Griffin said she has lived in the community for about eight years, previously worked at Casey's in Gardner and opened the Dollar General in Edgerton. "We are really excited to have Valerie on board," City Administrator Beth Linn said, noting this hire is the first step in staffing The Greenspace and that some part-time positions will follow.
On a separate walk-on item, Linn asked the council to set employee membership pricing at The Greenspace to match the resident rate after staff inadvertently omitted employee rates from the published schedule. Councilmember Deb Lebakken moved approval; the motion passed 4-0.
Paddock gave a brief 2024 recreation review, saying attendance at events "gradually increased" during her tenure though weather reduced turnout at some events (notably the rain-affected July 3 Community Picnic). She highlighted the opening of Glendell Acres Park, which drew more than 100 people despite morning rain, and previewed 2025 offerings including a spring dance at the new facility and daily activities for children during spring break.
Council members praised staff ideas and the work on the new park and Greenspace operations.
